This hands-on practical seminar will cover the latest strategic, evidentiary and real world challenges of using the latest litigation technology. It is important for the modern litigator to know how and why to use technology, when not to use it, and how to avoid technology that does not work or can even backfire.

Timothy A. Piganelli is recognized as one of the country’s top trial consultants in the areas of trial strategies, trial presentation, courtroom technology and computerized litigation support. His vast trial consulting experience provides expert insight to clients on strategies for the best use of technology to create effective illustrative presentations for jury comprehension. He is an adjunct professor at Southwestern University School of Law, McGeorge School of Law, and the University of Denver, teaching Computer Assisted Litigation. He holds Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering Technology degrees from Arizona State University.

Fred Galves is one of the nation’s leading academic authorities on litigation technology and the use of computer-generated exhibits in the courtroom. Professor Galves was a teaching fellow at Harvard University, an adjunct professor at Colorado College, and has taught law at U.C. Davis, Fordham University, Denver University and Southwestern University and is a full professor at University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. Before teaching, Professor Galves was a litigation associate at Holland & Hart. He earned his J.D. from Harvard University and B.A. from Colorado College.

Fred Galves was a featured speaker on a special panel regarding the the
use of display technology in teaching. The presentation was given at
the Third International Conference on Contracts held Friday-Saturday,
February 23-24, 2007, a South Texas College of Law, in Houston, Texas.
This international event brought together scholars who teach and work in
the areas of contract law and practice for two days of panels and
scholarly presentations.

Fred Galves, a professor at the University of Pacific McGeorge School of Law, said investors that pull out of a class-action suit believe they can make a strong case to come away with a better deal.

"You take a risk. You can opt out and go out on your own and get less," Galves said. The CalSTRS deal "shows that the procedure that allows you to opt out really works."
